Company needs to make real investment in workers, not in spinning its image on blog
(Washington, DC) – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers’ Making Change at Walmart campaign (MCAW), the national campaign to change Walmart into a more responsible employer, released the following statement regarding the news that Walmart uses a blog on its corporate website as “its own newsroom”:
“Walmart isn’t fooling anyone with the so-called ‘news’ they report on their company blog,” said Jess Levin, communications director for MCAW.
“Posting puff pieces about hand-picked Walmart workers is not evidence of real change. Workers deserve more than being force-fed company propaganda – they deserve wages above the poverty level, reliable scheduling and honest opportunities for promotion. Every day, many workers tell us that none of these are realities at Walmart, and until all workers tell us otherwise, we will not stop advocating for them.”
